For Estela Sanz Posteguillo, the Munich-based Spanish singer, “every day is flamenco”! A scholarship at the renowned Fundación Cristina Heeren in Seville laid the foundation for her deep flamenco singing. Her spectrum, however, extends far beyond that, which was clearly heard on the evening recorded here: world music, classical music, electronics, pop, folk... with musical curiosity she combines everything into a new, surprising sound.
The Spanish composer and pianist Nélida Béjar also lives in Munich. Her touching compositions lie between classical music, electronic music and musical theater, with her play between sound tradition and complex rhythm providing the perfect foundation for the multi-layered musical interpretations.
With their program specially created for the Rochuskapelle, the two played an unbelievable concert! Due to the wide range from electronic improvisations on old and new themes, Nélida's modern compositions, reinterpretations of classic Spanish flamenco chants to a finale of rock and Hebrew gospel - all in their own arrangements - it was a border crossing between tradition, classical and modern, Spain and the world. After the encore (with a spontaneous performance by the flamenco dancer Gisa Michelón) the entire audience was upside down!
